Frequently Asked Questions
Our FAQs section includes a compilation answers to some of the most common questions we receive at Louisville Veterinary Urgent Care. This is your go-to resource for understanding our services, procedures, and how we can best assist with your pet's health needs.
01.
What is veterinary urgent care?
Veterinary urgent care refers to immediate, non-emergency medical services provided to pets for conditions that require prompt attention but are not life-threatening. These can include minor injuries, sudden illnesses, or ongoing conditions that have worsened. Veterinary urgent care centers are designed to fill the gap between regular veterinary clinics, which may not offer immediate appointments, and emergency hospitals, which are intended for severe, life-threatening situations. They provide timely care to pets, often with shorter wait times and lower costs than emergency hospitals.
02.
Does my pet need urgent care?
If your pet is showing signs of distress, unusual behavior, or symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, limping, or loss of appetite, they may need urgent care. However, if your pet is experiencing severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, seizures, or major trauma, it's best to seek immediate help from a 24-hour emergency hospital. When in doubt, please don't hesitate to contact us or your primary care veterinarian to discuss your pet's symptoms and determine the best course of action.
03.
Can it wait until I can be seen by my primary care veterinarian?
While some conditions like minor cuts, mild limping, or occasional vomiting might be able to wait until your primary care veterinarian is available, others may require more immediate attention. Persistent symptoms, severe discomfort, or any condition that worsens over time should not be ignored. Ear infections, severe itching possibly due to allergies, and frequent vomiting or diarrhea are examples of conditions that could escalate if not treated promptly. When in doubt, it's always best to seek professional advice. Please contact us or your primary care veterinarian to discuss your pet's symptoms and decide on the best course of action.
04.
Does my pet need emergency care?
If your pet has been hit by a car, is having difficulty breathing, experiencing ongoing seizures, or showing signs of dry heaving or bloating, these are considered emergency situations. These symptoms indicate severe conditions that require immediate attention at a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital. In these cases, it's crucial to act quickly to ensure the best possible outcome for your pet.
05.

06.
Does Louisville Veterinary Urgent Care accept pet insurance?
Yes, Louisville Veterinary Urgent Care accepts most major pet insurance providers. However, it's always a good idea to check with your specific insurance company to confirm coverage details before your visit. Please note that payment is typically required at the time of service, and your insurance company may reimburse you directly based on your policy.
